A detective and a psychologist travel from Manchester to Oslo to interrogate a suspect in a high profile disappearance, but the investigation spirals into a surreal nightmare when the suspect begins to perceive the psychologist shifting forms.
Synopsis
The film opens with a montage of stark, fragmented visuals, anchored by a newspaper headline: “British Scientist and Personal Assistant Vanish.” Detectives scour desolate landscapes, their search rendered through haunting, disjointed imagery that builds a sense of unease. Intercut with these scenes are flashes of the interrogation itself, where the detective and psychologist confront their suspect. As the questioning intensifies, reality frays, the suspect witnesses the psychologist’s appearance distort and morph, culminating in the vision of a grotesque, clown like figure.
The film concludes with equally fragmented, ambiguous images: police tape flutters in the wind as two detectives stand over a body on the floor. It remains unclear whether the victim is one of the missing individuals or someone else entirely.
Through its fractured structure, Woken blends psychological thriller with surreal horror, immersing viewers in a disorienting meditation on perception, identity, and the instability of reality.
